MEA Apostille is applicable for Hague Conventional (HCC) Countries

Apostille is a French word which means re-attestation or authentication. Apostille authenticates that the Seal and Signature on the public Documents, issued by the authority, as such the Document or Certificate could be identified by the foreign Countries who are the members of the Hague Convention (HCC) 1961.

In India, the authority of Apostille (in both the purposes, Personal or Commercial) is Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). MEA can directly Apostille photocopy of Passport and Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) which is issued from Regional Passport Office (RPO).

If the destination Country is not a Hague Conventional Country (non-HCC) then finally the Document will be Attested and Legalized by the Embassy or Consulate of the target Country present in India.
